Oceans

Oceans - First Grade Roars!

We enjoyed our week learning about Ocean Animals during content.  We learned about the characteristics of fish, whales and many other sea creatures.  We made fish bowls using crayons and water colors.  Then we made whales and wrote a fact on the spout.  Also we read Eric Carle's "A House for Hermit Crab".  We used bowls and decorated them with different colored sand and shells. We also had fun with ocean word work activities during Daily 5. http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Oceans-of-Word-Work-and-Writing-with-the-Common-Core-Standardshttp://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Ocean-Life-for-the-Primary-Grades

We are having so much fun learning about sharks this week.  We gathered our schema, made a few misconceptions and have a lot of new learning on our classroom shark!  This shark craft I found searching on the web.  They turned out so cute and I just smile every time I look at them.

Rain Forest - First Grade Roars!

We enjoyed our week on the Rain forest.  First we watched a few short videos to observe how slowly a sloth moves through the forest.  Then we made these hanging sloths.  We finished the week by writing about everything we learned and making  these adorable toucans. My students really utilized my Rain forest freebie word wall for their writing.  They did a wonderful job!http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Rainforest-Word-Wall-Freebie

Cutest Snack

Cutest Snack - First Grade Roars!
One of my amazing moms brought in the cutest snack. We are doing a unit called Celebrating Me this week.  We are learning about what we were like as babies and how we have changed.  For snack she sent in baby food jars with cut up carrots.  The students took of the lids and used them for ranch dipping dishes.  It was so cute and healthy, I had to share!http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Celebrate-Me-All-About-Me-Unit-from-Baby-to-Child

My first graders had so much fun with our "Wind Experiment" from our Sources of Energy Packet.  We had to huff and puff and move 4 objects across the floor.  We made predictions and then graphed our results. This unit went well with our "Three Little Pigs Theme"http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Sources-of-Energy-for-Primary-Students
